I love it when my 'traveling kids' send photos of all the great places they go to and see!!!
Hi! We were on vacation in Telluride, Colorado. This is definitely the most dog friendly place I have ever been. All the restaurants have patio seating for dogs and all shops, except food establishments, allow dogs inside. I was able to have Taz next to me in the dressing room! We are having dinner outdoors at this restaurant in front of the fire pit and you can see Taz is fitting in very well. Thanks for giving me the best dog in the world! Hope all is good with you.
This family loved their prior two dogs but they could not travel with them due to behavioral issues. Taz is the best match for this family, he is so well rounded and has such good manners. Miss you Taz - see you for petsitting soon!

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! PLEASE READ -
YES, IT HAPPENS!
D, a very scary thing happened this morning at 4:40 a.m. I let Billy Bob out to potty as I always do about that time and I just happened to stay at the door looking out and something came swooping down and landed on the patio roof and I thought it was an owl so I ran out and picked up Billy Bob and looked up and there was this big owl on top of my umbrella right beside me and Billy Bob. Now I am scared to let him out at nights. Can't owls pick dogs up and kill them? I was so scared after that thinking what could have happened I hugged him and cried.

Hi D, Abbie is the light of of our life. She runs our household. We cuddle all the time. She is my best buddy. She steps out very proud on her walks. We are so glad we got her. Thanks D, Jo Ann & Chuck
I offered to take her back and the answer was:
No way...I love her ...you can't have her back!!! Try to stay cool.

It was a cold rainy day:
All the curtains were closed, and the cupboard was bare. Not a thing to do but retreat to the lair. ALEX
This boy is a very special kid - he not only lost lots of weight but he took the therapy dog test with no training classes and past with flying colors - he was able to travel inside the airplane where allll dogs should be, not in cargo! Special boy, we love and miss you!

Dear Mom Dee: It's me, your friend Buddy, sending you some pics of me just hanging out--on my mom and daddy's bed, hiding in pillows; at holiday time in my bandana; me just chillin with my doggy pillow, and me in the living room. If you're thinking that I act like I own the place, you are right! Thanks for finding me this home! Hope your other kids are as lucky as me! Love from Buddy
What a sweet boy, his sister Missy is doing great too!

We decided to escape the Phoenix heat. Linzie had her first airplane ride. She is such a good girl.
We LOVE to see our kids being out and about and very social!! What a fun summer!

Hi Dee, Good to hear from you. The boys are doing okay. Toby the jumper has developed some back trouble but after a round of Prednisone and some very strict rules from the vet he is back to his old self. We don't let him jump up onto the furniture or climb any steps any more. The Veterinary Clinic just down the street from us here in Show Low is really great. They are so good with the animals and seem to be less expensive. Herman who is still the chubbier of the two doesn't seem to have any problems with his back or anything else really. They both are able to do nice walks in the cooler mountain air. Glad you are having a good summer. Dianne and Louie. Toby and Herman (catching some sun on the back deck)
Doxie kids sometimes end up with back problems from that long low body they have. I can't believe it has been since December 2009 that they have been gone! I am so thankful I get to see them often! Love you boys!

UPDATE!! CHLOE HAS FIRST HAIRCUT AND SLEEPS WITH SISTER!
Hi D! Just an update that Chloe is still doing great. She has her first training with Mike next week to remind her of a few behaviors (no eating shoes and no need to bark at everything in the yard:). But, overall, she is such a great girl and we still feel so blessed to have her in our family. She has gotten taller and bigger (17lbs now), had her first haircut, gets weekly baths, lots of exercise and attention all the time. She loves to run in circles around the yard and has no interest in the pool at all. She has become the official office dog and spends her days in the casita with Darrin and his staff. Her nightly ritual is to snuggle with Ashlyn before I move her to her crate to sleep. She also goes with us to dog friendly restaurants and is an angel just sitting at our feet 99% of the time. Angie
NOTE: Remember, she is just a puppy... and doing very well. Mike is one of Rover's referrals for training - he will be presenting a free seminar on June 20, 2015 - see our front page calendar for more information.

A HUGE THANK YOU FROM CHLOE AND FAMILY!
Thank you so much for choosing us to be Chloe's furever family! We are excited for a lifetime of fun memories.
Thank you also for all you do for the dogs needing to find their furever homes! Chloe, Stone, Ashlyn, Mom and Dad!
NOTE: Thank you for the generous gift - the kids LOVE cow ears and a new bed, they think they are in heaven! and the gift card will go very very far! This special family waited patiently while Chloe was spayed and recovered... very hard for kids to do! (Mom and Dad were just as excited, don't let them kid you!) They had everything ready for her, they fenced an area so she would be safe from the pool and had a comfy bed and toys for her too. A perfect match! Hugs Chloe!

Dear Mamma D, I don't know what you said to my mom last night at the Women's Exchange meeting, but it worked. I got a poached egg on my kibbles this morning, and a extra kiss and hug that she said came from you. Thanks!
I still miss you and the kids, but it's a bit of alright around here. I get lots of walks, sometimes I get to run along side the bicycle (my favorite). Mom used to take me on car rides..but not so much right now..she says it's getting too hot and she won't leave me in the car.
I'm being a very good boy, I heard mom talking on the phone yesterday, and she says she is going to visit my granddad.....well, not without me!! Even if I have to sneak in the suitcase, she's not going to my granddad's without me...he likes me better than her anyway. He lets me help him work on things...he calls me the Supervisor.
Love you Momma D
NOTE: I cannot tell you all how much little notes like this mean to Rover's family. We strive to make perfect matches and have forever happy families - this is proof that we are succeeding! I love each and every kid that comes through here as if they were my own and to find wonderful families like this one just makes our hearts sing! Thank you! Squeeze that neck for me! He is one very special boy!

DON'T FORGET THAT I DO PETSITTING, ESPECIALLY FOR MY ROVER'S KIDS!
Thank you Sparky and family! The card is so beautiful I am going to frame it! This 'little' 90 pound boy was referred by my vet Dr. Sam for petsitting. Mom and Dad have lots of laughs at the photos of how much fun he has when he is here and he arrives home clean, tired and happy! I have been petsitting for more years than my gray hair lets on but I have so many wonderful kids and their families as friends. Last week I had two that I have been petsitting for since 2000...whew! that sounds like a long time ago.
Again, thank you Sparky and family for the wonderful support and thoughtfulness!

WHAT A WONDERFUL PHONE CALL TO RECEIVE!!!
Porter is a keeper for sure, he has the best of manners, the sweetest temperament, and minds very well, loves to go everywhere, and is just an all around good boy!
Porter's Mom called to say that he has fit right in, Dexter and Izzy were a little skeptical at first - what, a brother! but everyone is getting along just fine. Porter actually loves to go with Dad to Home Depot and loves to ride in the car. Dad has taken on the daily walking and both are loving it! Porter jumps into bed and gets under the covers to snuggle too.
Porter does not act his age for sure! He is spry and busy all the time. Mom is sure he will love to get out of the heat for a little bit like Dexter and Izzy do.
NOTE: These are the wonderful calls we love to get! A win-win for everyone involved! Love you Porter, miss you too! And yes, Dexter and Izzy, I miss you too!!

I am sure you all have heard me 'preach' about the food and weight and the health of the dog. This is Rover's latest kid that was so miserable he couldn't walk very far, was not comfortable laying down and his hair and skin were not in the best of shape despite regular grooming. It is all about the food and exercise! Average life expectancy is 12-15 years. He came in at 50+ lbs. - the standard is: Height: Males 15 ½ inches Weight: 15 - 30 pounds. A good weight would be around 25 lbs. on average. For every pound the dog is overweight it is equal to three pounds for you. So, you would be 75 lbs overweight. This is serious. As you can see, he is very close to his weight now, last weight was 33 lbs. WAY TO GO ALEX!!! and his Mom and Grandmom are walking right along with him!! They love him and want him around for as long as possible! Let's drop those last few pounds :)

Thanks for the information. I went to the Hemopet site and read lots of interesting stuff. I’m rather interested in the saliva test for potential food sensitivities.
Here’s a photo for your “bulletin board”: Annie as she attempts to jump on every piece of furniture (and my sweater) in 10 seconds or less. She’s becoming quite the acrobat (acrodog?).
Note: Pretty good for a kid that came in such bad shape and had Valley Fever! She pulled through with "flying" colors!!

Yesterday was 3 weeks since little Tinker joined us and I happily say that she is settled in seems to be loving life. As I had suspected she has shaken us out of our dull old routine and even Wilbur is not sleeping as much. Walking with her is a joy! Pottying is going just fine, had about 3 three accidents in the first week till we got our signals straight and none since then. She rides in the golf cart like a pro, wearing her harness and leash tied to the back of the seat, she just sits and enjoys the scenery! We went over to the pottery room yesterday and visited Nancy. Nancy was so happy to see her and to see how happy she looks. Tinker sends lots of kisses, she truly does have the fastest tongue I have ever seen! Sue, Ed, Wilbur and Tinker

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ONE AND ALL!
Rover's Kids have been having a wonderful holiday time! They sent a note out to all wishing for health, happiness and peace - the kids wanted to share some of the responses for all to see what wonderful homes their brothers and sisters have! It is not too late, we can add more comments or photos any time!

ANOTHER HAPPY MATCH!
Carly came to live with us almost ten months ago and she has brought such joy to our hearts and lives. We didn't realize how much we needed this little furry creature to brighten our days.
She makes us laugh or smile every day watching what she is going to do next.
Thank you, D, for making us aware of this sweet little girl and welcoming her back for doggy day care. Darlene and Dale
NOTE: I am so very blessed that I get to visit with my kids for petsitting, they walk in and know exactly what to do, have fun with old and new friends, play hard, eat well, have a bath and go home tired! Love you Carly girl!

CAN I COME VISIT MORE OFTEN?
I think Louie has so much more fun at Rover's Rest Stop!
Thank you so much for taking great care of him, 2 weeks is a long time to have two dogs. Thank you for cleaning their ears out and giving them baths.
You took good care of Princess, picking her up at the vet for me after mild emergency surgery, keeping her wound intact and clean. I couldn't ask for better care for my dogs! Mistie

THANK YOU! It makes our hearts sing when we get notes like this.
I received a wonderful letter from Dexter and Izzie's new mom and dad. They are having a wonderful time up north out of the heat and love love love the walks on the wild side!! They have a routine and love to snuggle in bed. It is a little harder for Dexter to adjust but Izzie is the love bug - I know Dexter will come around, he did when he was here. I cannot thank this wonderful family for taking in these two precious kids. They had a rough start in life but turned out just perfect.
"I just wanted to let you know how much the little guys are loved and they are getting extra special care. Thank you for trusting us with these special little pets - we love them."
P.S. See note above too - they now have Porter!

Thank you Woman’s Exchange for the wonderful Cow Ears and Doggie toys for all of Rover’s Rest Stop Kids!!
The basket was full of cow ears and boy do the kids love those! Sherrian knows that from volunteering with Rover's at Petco. The extra bonus of toys was right up their alley!
And your generous money donation will fill their tummies with good food. Lee and I have totally enjoyed meeting all of you and learning more about you and/or your business endeavors.
Looking forward to a wonderful New Year ahead! Blessings to all.

November 9, 2013, I adopted my Little Billy Bob (male silky terrier) from Rover's Rest Stop. The loss of my husband turned my life upside down and when D brought Billy Bob and 3 other dogs to my home for a home visit, there was no question which little guy was going to fill my life once again with so much joy, love and happiness. Thanks D, you are my divine intervention by bringing the perfect little boy to me. D you are a special person who loves and takes these dogs in and trains and finds them the perfect new home and family. You have been a definite life changer for me and I have told my friends if and when you are ready for a doggy in your life call D at Rover's Rest Stop! Proud Mommy, Vera Metcalf

November of 2012 I adopted a gorgeous little Havanese through Rover's Rest Stop. Irie was an owner turn-in and came from some rather auspicious beginnings. D did her magic and I am grateful that she entrusted me with the future of this little dog. D was very patient with me and the process of finding the right dog for my home.
In fact, it is now Oct. 2013 and we have recently adopted our second doggy family member with D's help, a Papillon we call Obi. Obi and Irie are incredible buds, they work very well together on our daily walks, they are doing great with their training and I love, love, love them both. Thank you so much, you and your organization have been truly lovely to work with. Debra

I truly want to thank Rover's Rest Stop for making a perfect match! I saw Snow's picture in the Sun Lakes Splash and I knew I wanted this little girl. D brought several of the cutest dogs for a home visit. I wanted a small dog that I could pick up, that had personality and that would make me laugh! D nicknamed her Snowy Snowy Snowball as she was white and found on the hottest day! I got exactly what I wanted in Snow. I was provided detailed information on each dog and she assisted in making a perfect match. Snow was a stray but most of Rover's dogs are owner surrendered. With her fostering care they are all well-behaved, loving and sweet dogs. I would recommend Rover's Rest Stop to anyone! Phyllis
NOTE: Lost but not for long! Snowy Snowy Snowball was a barrel of fun while here!

Linzie is such a joy and has added so much to our lives. She sleeps with us every night.
I am so thankful there are people like you to love our little ones until you find them a home.
Take care.

NOTE: It was easy to match Linzie's energy with this active family :)

Thanks to D at Rover's Rest Stop for the perfect addition to our family - Max, a 1-1/2 year old Wheaten Terrier/Poodle mix! The process of getting Max took approximately a week. D is very thorough, she conducted a home visit and contacted my references in order to place the right dog with our family. D also provided a 'Bible' of everything we needed to know about Max which led to an easy transition. Chavez family

Dan and I want to thank you so much for coming to our rescue. The unexpected loss of Dan's brother brought us from Alaska to Arizona with the biggest concern for his beloved Missy-Miss. God answered our prayers and enabled us to honor him by providing the very best for his loyal companion. We took Missy-Miss to the only groomer she knew and it was Kristen that led us to you. You seemed too good to be true! You did exactly what you said you would. You kept in touch with us, sent pictures and emails that were healing and thoughtful. During the almost six months you had her you reassured us that you would not let her go to a home until it was the right and perfect home for her and that could provide the stability and love she needed. She blossomed in your care, she even learned to play with other dogs. What an awesome answer to prayer and a story I share often! Carey and Dan

Just wanted to let you know that we are all happy and fine. I didn't realize how much Adam could help around the house. He helps with the laundry (runs off with the socks), can fold blankets (when hiding a treat for later), notifies me when the rabbits are eating my plants (barking), and he even tried to help clean up crumbs on the table the other day (requires some people training to remember to push in the chairs). He has certainly helped keep us healthy from all our walks. He has introduced us to many neighbors and dogs that we hadn't met, and best of all, if either one of us steps outside for a moment, he is there at the door as a greeter when we return. Don't know how we got along without him. Thanks! Susan and Robert
